2016 has started as always in full creative and collaborative fashion!
This will be the 5th consecutive year that I have been asked to artistically direct the Curtain Raiser in collaboration with The Birmingham Hippodrome and Sir Matthew Bourne's, New Adventures.
2016 see's Sir Matthew Bourne brings back his adaptaion of Sleeping Beauty to the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre.
The project started in December 2015 where i auditioned nearly 200 young dancers on behalf of The Birmingham Hippodromes Creative Learning Department.
23 young performers were chosen from Birmingham Orminston Academey, Stratford Upon Avon College, Walsall College and Elmhurst Ballet School. Along with 6 young choreographers, all of whom were part of the 2015 curtain raiser Edward Scissorhands.
The next 4 weeks will see us all head on a journey of collaboration and creativity as I mentor 6 young choreographers, with stylistic 'New Adventures' imput from Joe Walkling (New Adventures Dancer).
The exciting thing for me about this project is that over 4 weeks we nurture young choreographers and daners to create a unique piece of dance, whilst working as a small company.
A fantastic way to showcase young dancers within The West Midlands, but also support our young choreographers of the future from within the region.
